Bowl of Tulips by Ivor Powell

62. Bowl of Tulips

24.8 x 35cm. Canvas with new frame

NLW(PG 5896)

This is probably the third and last of his late flower studies. Like his bowl of Vienna Charm roses, these tulips were probably given to him as a present. Though this bowl may be in his conservatory, he made no effort to locate it there. He was concerned, rather, with his bold forms and uncomplicated broad areas of colour. He applied his acrylic more densely and adventurously than in his earlier painting, indicating that, had he lived, his work might have taken on an even more expressionistic character.
