This third version of his Parish Church obviously bears a close relationship to his first and was probably based on it. Painted to give to Canon Redd in retirement, the most obvious change involved recording, indeed, celebrating the removal of the flag post. The two paintings share common elements but he modified them as his eye directed him in this later painting. Without the central white post, a new set of formal and tonal relationships was needed. Both the path and driveway are transformed, the clouds take on a more defined profile, the large tree on the left has to expose more of the tower window, and so on. He evidently relished another opportunity to compose variations on a familiar theme.
