11. Village Green
30.5 x 40.5cm. Daler Board with home-made reversed frame
On the reverse, Ivor wrote Village Green. This is an unusual landscape, with a rather flat perspective, in which items are introduced in a symbolic way. The buildings form a straight row on the skyline, the foreground animals are superimposed and the sheep are in neat rows, forming an isolated block, but this painting also has features which show he was moving away from his exploration of a predominantly symbolic manner. He was becoming absorbed in the physical quality of the elements in his composition, especially of the animals in the foreground. His art seems to be in transition here.
